Tom + Jess | Abbeville Estate Wedding
Abbeville Estate is one of my most favourite wedding venues in Auckland. The quaint white homestead with its gorgeous wooden floors and sweet windows, its large dance-ready barn (with no curfew), the cute orchard and surrounding landscapes, its a dream venue that I absolutely love to shoot at. So, when I met Tom + Jess and they shared their adoration for the venue, I knew we were a perfect match.
This gorgeous couple are such sweethearts. They visited my stand at the Wedding Collective show (coincidently held at Abbeville Estate) last year and on that single day, managed to lock in their photographer, make up artist, hair stylist and dress designer. Score! When we had our first client meeting it was as if the universe had aligned, not only did they share similar tastes, they also lived in my neighbourhood, residing just down the road from my old primary school.
Jessica was spectacularly stunning on her wedding day, dressed in a beautiful A La Robe gown and full veil (with the cutest flower crown). She got ready at the boutique Hotel de Brett in the city and its quirky decor made for such a fun pre-wedding venue. With her bridesmaids, and her beautiful mum, Jess had a relaxed morning of pampering before being treated to a ride to her ceremony in her lovely uncle’s vintage luxury dodge rover. The pride on his face as he drove her to her wedding was priceless.
Tom, who serenaded his bride down the aisle, couldn’t take his eyes of Jess the entire day. His groomsmen were a laugh and half and added to the fun and festive atmosphere of the family-filled gathering.
The pair opted for a first look amongst the orchard before their ceremony so they could spend the day, undistracted, with friends and family. They even managed to find a few minutes to squeeze in a picnic to curb their hunger ahead of the excitement.
My favourite people at this wedding had to be the couple’s nanas. Yes, its true, I have a soft spot for grandparents, but these two were such a laugh. They wanted to ensure they were front and centre for the family photo, gave great cuddles, posed with the bridesmaid’s bouquets to re-live their wedding memories and, boogied down on the dance-floor at the end of the night.
I love leaving a wedding feeling like a friend of the family (even though I know I am there to do a job), and the wonderful and welcoming guests made me feel just that. Smiles, laughter, love and joy. Ah, yes, I will never get sick of filling my days with happiness while I share in the jubilation of wedding celebrations. Thank you Mr + Mrs Roberts for choosing me to document your story, it was definitely one of the highlights of my season.
And a special thanks to my second shooter Jasmine Kovach.
